Charlene is an universal sofware reader of digital documents presented in accordance with the recommendation of the International Image Interoperability Framework community. It allows to read any IIIF document; thus, its use exceeds Manuscriptorium environment and is not limited only to historical manuscripts and books collections, since the content can be upload to it from any historical heritage preserving institution that makes its collections available in accordance with the rules of IIIF.
A logged in user can compile his own collection of IIIF manifests allowing him to work easily with such a material that he is particularly interested in. Within a single collecion, he can access documents from Manuscriptorium as well as from other sources.
The application is designated for Windows 10 operating system and requires internet connection. The main function is available for all anonymous users; logged in users can make use of additional functions including an option of saving their particular collection.
This application has been supported by the Ministry of Culture for the development of the research institution National Library of the Czech Republic, Research Area No. 4 Digital Codicology and Book Science.
